Since 1988, Black Hound New York has been delighting customers with chocolates, cakes, cookies and other treats. Our storied cakes were first served in the café at the original Barneys New York and from there, went on to dazzle millions of palettes.
Using only premium ingredients you can pronounce like butter, flour, chocolate, and cream, the skilled craftsmen in our Brooklyn, New York kitchen prepare each piece individually. Eggs are cracked by hand, cane sugar or honey stirred in to sweeten, and the batter poured and tins slipped into the oven. The desserts are artfully layered and decorated by hand with edible flourishes like freshly roasted nuts and coconut.
There’s no corn syrup or shortening used here. We believe in only using the purest and the best.
We always develop our celebrated recipes right in our own kitchen and perfect them until they’re desserts we are proud to serve to our friends and family. Publications like Food & Wine, The New York Times, Serious Eats, Zagat and Town & Country have raved about our treats.
Find out why. You’ll taste the love.
Who is the black hound?
Our story starts with a truffle, done in the French style, made in a tiny New York City apartment. A simple orb of bittersweet Belgian chocolate infused with liqueur on the inside and dusted with cocoa powder on the outside. The perfect proportions took months to master and to celebrate that quest for quality, we named our company Black Hound. To celebrate our hometown, we later added “New York”.
So, a confession: There is no dog. There never was a dog. But hounds (as well as pigs) are known to scour woods with their sharp noses and dig up the mushroom variety of truffle, which adds sparkling complexity to a dish with just a couple flakes.
Our name celebrates that same pursuit of culinary perfection, evident in even the smallest doses.
